Hello everybody :)
I have a SatNav (TomTom One XL). It has built-in 1GB FLASH memory and no expansion slot to add anything extra. I have Western-Europe in it but recently I realized that there is no space to add any other maps... so if I wanted to go to Eastern-Europe I would have to take a laptop, delete maps from it and load those that I require.
I have a question now - is it possible to replace it with larger capacity chip? I opened it some time ago when had a problem with speaker and saw there is TLGA chip soldered on main-board. Don't remember what was it exactly, but I am just curious. If I found compatible chip but with bigger size what would I have to do for it to work.. and is it possible at all?

Does it mean it isn't really "do it yourself" job? In that case I think it will be easier just to buy new unit.
I was hoping that it would be possible to dump content of original chip (modify it if necessary) and write it to new one.

I tried to upgrade my maps and found that new version is a little to bit to fit in my device :( I did some research and found something interesting.
Memory chip in my device is KMAFG0000A-S998 which is actually very peculiar. It incorporates MMC controller in the chip itself! Check this
Now I am wondering - should that work if I could find larger chip (i.e. KLM4G2DEFD-A301) and simply replaced it? PKG size is slightly bigger but pins are the same.
Now the only thing is to get the chip itself :) Worth giving it a try, it shouldn't be too expensive.[/url]
